SS DT: Winter Shine

Hello crafters! I am on the Simple Stories blog today, sharing 2 layouts using the Winter Wonderland collection. This collection really beams, even if it is used with non Winter photos!
It has always been a tradition with my girlfriends to meet up for a Christmas gift exchange and a meal together. This year, we had a blast and I needed to document this yearly affair with the Winter Wonderland collection.
Using my Silhouette Cameo this time, I cut some svg files for the Shine title and Circle Wreath. Then I ran the layout through the sewing machine, giving the circular elements a border with the running stitch.
How about a heart from the sticker sheet to accompany the snowman? Layering up with elements in the Bits and Pieces pack is easy!
I like to add locations of the places visited in the photo. In this case, I used the alphas in the sticker sheet as a sub title. Enamel drops are a must to add a tinge of color and texture!
The phrases in the Bits and Pieces pack are very versatile for any layouts. I used the Washi Tapes in the series behind the phrase in order to give it a highlight.
_________________________________
The next layout was inspired by stars! I cut many stars into the pattern paper, and then backed it up with a contrasting color to highlight the star cuts.
More Simple Stories Silhouette cuts! Christmas bubbles go hand in hand with this layout, and they are easy to use. Here you can also see some hand-stitching which I had done around each of the stars.
More washi tape, stitched star and cool phrases! I even made use of the negative of the star cut from the pattern paper and used it as part of the decoration. I was in the hair salon for 4 hours waiting for a haircut. The weather had been rainy, and it was cool out there. The waiting kept me in anticipation on my new look!
Adding stamped words to layouts are a favourite! The Classic Christmas roller stamp has so many phrases to choose from, and it really does not need to be christmas!
This collection's colors and elements are perfect to use along any photo, snow or not! Hope you like these layouts today!

SS DT: Moving Onto 2017

Hello! I am on the Simple Stories blog today! 2016 had been awesome and in no time, it would be 2017! Time sure passes way too fast!

It has nearly been a 10 year tradition since we dated that we would spend the new year counting down at the comfort in his house and ordering pizza for dinner. This year, our first year as a married couple, is going to be slightly different as I promised my Aunt to go on a short trip with her. Feeling a little guilty, I decided to make this layout to accompany my husband! Of course, the 'Happy New Year' collection is the best collection for this layout.

I love the fun and vibrant colors! I first started with some stitching to accompany the colors. Using simple back stitches to accomplish the title 2017. The sticker sheet has many great phrases to accompany the title!

Next, I fussy cut the elements from the pattern papers to decorate the layout. The party hats make the elements super fun and I totally love layering them!

Another set of elements! Here I used the star from the sticker sheet and another die-cut vellum star to accompany it.

The second layout today is inspired by the fact that it is also the 10th year since I started dating my husband! This is inspired by the pattern paper in the collection, where the countdown of 1-10 corresponds to the ten years of love!

I am so inspired by the countdown, that I used 2 sheets of the same pattern paper for this layout. I fussy cut the numbers and layered it on the same pattern paper for impact.

Another part of the layout where I cut strips and sew it to the background. This helps to direct the attention to the photo as well. For a fun element, I curved the sides of the strips a little by folding it upwards slightly.

More party hat and phrases!

Last but not least, adding some more stitched element to the title! I wanted to highlight the number 10. This time, I did random stitching inside the number so it becomes more bold.

Another important basic element that all should have is the Sn@p Basics 4x6 Basics Stickers! They are super useful - as titles or sub-titles! Here I used the white ones for the word 'Amazing' and I love how it pops out!

2016 had been an exciting year and I look forward to 2017! Here is wishing everyone a great crafty year ahead!

SS DT: Snow Love

Hello! I am on the Simple Stories blog today sharing 2 layouts using the 'Winter Wonderland' Collection! This collection has inspired me to do some quick stitching and include some photos with snow.

This is the first layout I put together.

I loved how this piece came together. I started with layering the pattern papers. These layers “frame” the photo and highlights my black and white photograph to give it a good emphasis.

Next, I started to add some stitches to opposite corners with different snowflake designs. Stitching it in white helps to give some texture, yet not over cluttering the area so the embellishments can play its main role in the layout. I have also added some enamel dots to the centre of the stitched snowflakes. Such a pretty sight!

On the opposite end, I had also stitched some snowflakes. In addition, I have layered more snowflake embellishments from the Bits and Pieces as well as the 6x12 Chipboard. Of course I had to add some sentiments to this cluster! Gosh, the 4x6 sticker packs a very good range of words and phrases!

I titled this layout snow dream. I reside in Singapore, where it is really summer all year round. We don’t get snow here in Singapore. Oh how I wished for 4 seasons here (especially snow! ) The chipboard piece ‘Snow’ looks familiar? I could not help but used this piece from the POSH collection!

There are many goodies in this collection. Personally, I love to fussy cut the fun and beautiful images from the 3x4 Journalling Card Element pattern paper. Couple it with the christmas wreath and it gives such a good decoration!

-----------

For the other layout, I decided to really challenge myself with some more stitching to showcase a sub-title.

From the first time I saw this set of words from the Bits and Pieces pack, I knew I had to make use of them on one of the layouts. I also wanted to highlight these words so I took some chipboard, yarn and started sewing round and round. You can really see through the stitching (vaguely) so the beautiful pattern papers are not totally covered. It also helps me focus on the set of words which I placed on top of each other.

Because of the circular element I had used in the stitching, I also used embellishments from the collection with circular elements to match.

Another circular element to highlight these cute mittens here! I wondered if the snow fun referred to the photo or the cute mittens?

This collection brought me much joy! I love the soft colors of this collection! Hope you have enjoyed the walk through and here’s wishing all of you a Merry Christmas with lots of joy and laughter for the season!

SS DT: Best Crafty Pals

Best Crafty Pals
Hello fellow crafters! Stacy Koo here on the Simple Stories blog today and I am using the gorgeous The Reset Girl collection in 2 of my layouts!

I was drawn to this collection pretty much! It is currently used in the layout of my journals and organizers. Being a crafty soul, I can totally relate to all of the sentiments and images in this collection!

When I first laid hands on this collection, some of the elements have already inspired the idea of these 2 layouts. It seems to me that I didn’t have to think twice! Sometimes I let the paper do the work, and I go through that particular inspiration to come up with a layout.

For my first layout, I was inspired by 2 things: the hexagons which you find in the bits & pieces pack, and the lady with wide open arms in the 4x6 Horizontal Elements.

For the background, I used a pattern paper from the Sn@p Basics collection. Basic collections like these help me emphasize on the hexagon sewing techniques and showcasing the other decorative elements clearly. I hoard a few packs of these basic collections, because I always get to use them in a project or another! Here is a closer look at the stitching with some DMC thread and the title.

I have also done some fussy cuttings from The Reset Girl collection2x12, 4x12, 6x12 elements I find that the words “You Go Girl” fits the idea of travelling. In this photo, I went to Thailand with one of my best crafty pals and the entire trip was a blast!

As you can see, I am in love with how the 4x6 Horizontal Elements co-relates to the photograph! Sometimes the inspiration just comes to you and I love how easy it was to fix my mind to all the pretty elements in the pack. Fussy cutting images also help me to utilize the pattern papers in different ways!

The other cluster of embellishments all specify a single theme – travel. This collection is super versatile. I like how the elements fitted together - the organizer / passport, travel tickets, flight tickets, camera – they remind me of every single moment during this trip! I like how this collection comes with the small and big pieces! It gives me so much more possibilities!

In addition, I added a stamp just above the date of the travel. Yes you heard me right, there is a roller stamp in this collection and you must have this!

On to the next part of the embellishments, I added a single chipboard decoration. Because it shines in perfect harmony to my travel theme, there isn’t a need for more! Just pack it up with some layers below from the bits & pieces pack! I love how the words shine in the light!

Another embellishment I love is the using of clips! This clip is a total blast – I love the gold rims highlighting the rounded jewel.

---------------------
On the second layout, I was inspired by some of the pattern papers in the collection: Like A Boss and 24Seven pattern papers. With the photograph on hand, it was easy to find these inspirations from the collection. My best crafty pals give me the best reset when days are tough, through the creative process we go through together!

I started by cutting the pattern paper Like A Boss into its individual triangular pieces and layered it as the background. Then I did some machine sewing all around the layout to define this piece. I like to use sewing as a frame to capture attention to the center of this piece.

The next part started with layering. I like to layer the pieces near my photo to create attention. It is really easy to find the piece you need from the bits & pieces pack and then top it up with the journal stickers from the Combo Sticker.

I have also added some clear stickers to my layout. These clear stickers are so cool! You don’t have to be afraid that the background will interfere with the colors and arrangement of your elements since the backgrounds is clear! The fun part – it comes with cute hashtags!

Another close up on the clear stickers and a cute little stamp sentiment from the roller stamp!

The other part of embellishment comes from fussy cuttings. There are so many gorgeous things you can use in this collection, especially with the shiny elements!

Last but not least, the fussy cut from the 24Seven pattern paper! I had to use this piece, the gold trims really stands out and it best fits what I think of my crafty pals! You girls are truly amazing!

Hope you liked these layouts that I have shared with you today!

SS DT: 12x12 Layouts | Autumn Thoughts

Hello! I'm on the Simple Stories blog today with 2 layouts using the Hello Fall collection.

Wow, it's now Fall already! I am so inspired by this collection because fall is my favorite season among the 4 seasons! Singapore does not experience the four seasons (It is really summer all year round), so I am always enjoying the photos taken by my friends with different seasons.

The layouts I have done this time are taken by my ex-colleague and a good friend who has taken so many nice photos! I am always so inspired by his photography. These pictures are taken by JC Soo, at Liberty Memorial. Alongside with the photos, I also documented some of my favorite autumn quotes. It is a good way to store my memory of things I like at this point of time!

Be Thankful
For my first layout, I got inspired by the hexagons on the Warm & Cozy pattern paper. Love the colors in this collection; it really enhances the colors in my photo!

I started layering with the hexagons on the background. The fussy cutting of hexagons was so therapeutic; I actually cut all of the pattern paper into individual hexagons. I did not use up all of it though; I will leave the rest for another layout. The hexagons highlight one of my favorite fall quote – “Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree”

For the title, it was easy to pick from the bits and pieces pack! Just the word I was looking for! A little stitching across the title helps to create more attention to the title.

There are so many elements in the Bits & Pieces pack that I used in this layout. The leaves and acorns are so cute! I like to use leaves as fillers – they help to reduce empty spaces and yet at the same time, do not over clutter the layout.

More embellishments added to the layout. I like this tag – thankful - from the sticker sheet. Just paste it on, and add some more zig zag stitching to join the photo and the tag. Below the tag, I added some more layers of embellishments from the bits and pieces pack. There are simply too many goodies in this pack!

On the other end of the photo, I added this cute little chipmunk with the wooden logs. This melts my heart! Layering the embellishments one on top another creates a scene, and in this case, due to the lighter color of wooden grain background, achieves a very good contrast!

Autumn
For my second layout, the main inspiration comes from the 2x12, 4x12 & 6x12 Elements pattern paper. I am really inspired by the papers in this collection! Everything else comes into place with this collection.

First, I chose a dark woodgrain as the background to serve contrast against the lighter elements I would be placing on the layout. Next, I did a fussy cut on the scroll from the 2x12, 4x12 & 6x12 Elements pattern paper. This element inspired me to create a portrait layout with vertical elements. In this layout though, I opted for hand stitching with some DMC thread. I wanted a bold contrast of stitching to enhance this layout; especially so since the background is dark, while the scroll had a lighter shade. I added the title at the top of the scroll, just above the photo. I like how the colors are concentrated at the top of the alphabet. This title came from the sticker sheet

Surrounding the scroll, I have added some fussy cuts of the beautiful florals from I {heart} Fall pattern paper. It is a continuation from the florals existing from the scroll page. I have also die cut some leaves and added them in between the papers to act as fillers.

Some more goodies in the Bits & Pieces pack! I like to use embellishments associated with the photos. The simple yet eye catching trees in this pack works wonders!

Another cluster, backed with leaves as fillers to showcase a perfect embellishment – Autumn is here. All I needed to do was to fill up the space with another of my favourite fall quote – “How beautifully leaves grow old, how full of light and color are their last days.

I am such a Fall girl, and this collection has granted me a great journey into Autumn! Hope you have enjoyed the walk through, and thanks for dropping by today.
