SS DT: 12x12 Layouts | Wedding Thoughts

Hello crafters!

I am back on Simple Stories blog to share some layouts inspired by my wedding recently! This time, I am inspired by the wedding photo shoot taken recently for my traditional wedding. I thought I would like to document some thoughts that went in my mind during the photo shoot and it would be a good memento when hubs and I grow old! This time round, I made use of 2 Simple Stories collection which matches both of the photos I intended to craft on.

The first layout is titled "My Heart is Yours" and I made use of the Heart collection. This collection houses my favorite colors and I absolutely adore the paper elements in the pack! I had made 2 layouts previously using this collection, now another, and I still have enough for another layout!

To highlight the paper elements which I would like to showcase, I first cut them in squares of 2 sizes. Then I started planning where they would go, before finally stitching the edges of all the squares. Then I picked out the elements which I would like to use in order to highlight my photo.

Here, I have used a heart sticker and popped it over a pattern paper. This helps to highlight the embellishments pretty much!

Adding wooden embellishments from “Life in Color” collection here! I love to add wooden embellishments to showcase my subtitles. Easy way to create layering for my layouts! I also did fussy cutting of the heart shape there, it was originally meant for my journaling but I changed my mind afterwards! It is okay to make changes along the way, most importantly, go with the flow of creating and have fun!

Then, I used the more stickers to help with my title. Matting the little alpha stickers help to enhance the title. I did some fussy cutting of the rosette in order to place it below the title to help encase it.

My next layout features another wedding gown and I thought it would look best with the “Bloom & Grow” collection. I titled it “Happy Moments” and it came from the sticker sheet as well as the bits and pieces pack. How apt! I love it totally when pieces like that come to place easily!

More stitching here! I added some simple tacketing to the background in order to break the vertical flow of the layout. Simple stitch but I love that it creates sort of a fence which highlights the entire theme well! To add on to the garden feel, I also added some die-cut floral pieces, highlighted by the bradz and embellished with the bits and pieces pack! Not forgetting some sentiments along the way!

Another use of the sticker pack here. I layered then randomly then stitched up the entire row. Simple and effective!

SS DT: Love Lovely Bloom

I am on the Simple Stories blog today with 2 layouts using the ‘Bloom and Grow’ Collection! This collection has taken my breath away with the gorgeous colors and elements! It is one collection you will want to hoard because it is just too pretty!

My first layout is inspired by the cross stitch elements on one of the pattern paper. Once inspired, it is pretty fast to create!

I used some flower diecuts on this layout to complement the gnomes. These gnomes are honestly too cute!

Being the avid stitcher that I am, it is almost impossible not to stitch!

I am in love with the cross stitch and elements in this collection. A total fit! So on my second layout, I did more stitching! This time, i used blanket stitch on different sizes of circular elements to create layers. A simple and therapeutic stitching activity!

Love how it all blends together! This time, i machine stitched the title. The bits and pieces pack made it easy!

Here is a closer look at the circular pieces which i did the blanket stitch.

The elements have a circular centre, where i hid the centre with a brad in place, making it look more like a floral piece isn't it?

There is much going on in the thought process of these layouts! For more details, check out Simple Stories blog!

SS DT: Friendships & Smiles

Hello crafters! It’s me on the Simple Stories Blog today with 2 layouts using the ‘Sunshine & Happiness’ Collection and gorgeous flowers from Petaloo! Today marks Day 4 of the SS & Petaloo Product Swap week~ You must drop by the blog to see the lovely inspirations from DT members, I am so swooned by their projects!
So exciting to use these flowers on my layouts! Love the Petaloo flowers! The idea came about pretty quick, inspired by the bright and vibrant colors! The photos used here were taken last year where me and my best friends went for a photoshoot. It has been close to 16 years since i knew the both of them. The memories were filled with laughter and sunshine!
The first layout is titled “Summer Shine”.

The papers remind me of my best friends pretty much, especially for the smiles and sunshine they bring me! The first piece that called out to me was the pattern paper “High Five”. I felt this urge to cut the whole piece of the paper up! So I went with the flow, and filled the entire background with the cut out pieces, sewing each cut piece onto the cardstock. The finished background looked like a completed jigsaw piece which depicts how I felt with my best friends. When I craft, I like to go through a process which fits the story I am telling.
The background was so captivating and I did not want to cover up the photo area with too many papers, so I used some transparency for the layering instead. Here I cut some rectangular pieces with a window in the centre and backed it up with transparency. In addition, I added some chipboard frames (Life in Color Collection) to the sides as well. I cut them into 2 pieces, so I can really utilize more with 1 piece. (I am still very much in love with the stitched background!)

Petaloo flowers are extremely pretty! They highlight the entire layout immediately and I am drawn deeply towards the photo instantly with the gorgeous blooms! Here I first misted the flowers lightly with silver shimmer, adding a slightly glittery look to the flowers. Layer the flowers with diecut or punched leaves and SS embellishments to highlight the entire area!

In order to flow the entire page with the same concept, i used another chipboard frame for this cluster of embellishment as well. I must say that SS has done it yet again in the Bits & Pieces pack. This pack really packs a punch! I totally love the pieces in here!
When I saw the chipboard pieces, it was immediately clear what the title would be. With such sunshine and joy in the photos, Summer Shine just seemed the most appropriate title for me!
Lastly, to finish up the entire layout, I covered up the photo with a napkin and added some splashes of gesso for a finished look.

On the next layout “Happy Smiles”, I wanted to work with some stitching that signifies the friendship.
This time, I added the chain link. It helps me signify the chain of friendship and the memories we had together.

You could sew the chain link stitch directly onto the layout, but for this time, I decided to add it as a dangling piece from the photo so I sewed it seperately.

Ain’t the papers gorgeous and bright? I love how much the circular elements displays behind the photo and the vibrant colors of the background.
After the layering, I added Petaloo flowers to enhance the circular elements. This time, I took a mix of Petaloo flowers for a different look. I wanted different flowers and shapes in this layout because the elements are kept simple to avoid over cluttering the page.
In addition, I added some phrases (from the stickers and Bits & Pieces pack) on top of the flowers. It is one way to highlight subtitle!

Using transparency behind titles also help to lift the title without covering the background or overwhelming the word. In this case, I added 2 pieces from the Bits & Pieces pack to provide emphasis to the word “Smiles” too. I like the sticker sheet. It gives me possibilities of any title in mind!

Lastly, i added stickers and embellishments in this cluster to finish up the entire look of the whole layout, keeping in mind the circular theme thoughout this layout.

Hope you like these layouts!

SS: [LO] Family Bonds

I am on the Simple Stories blog with 2 layouts today!

This time round, I am inspired by the family details in Simple Stories 'Heart Collection'! You can say that I fell in love with this collection the minute I set my eyes on them. Firstly, it is because of colors which caught my eye - this is one of my favorite color combination! Smoothing colors and comfortable range to work on. Secondly, there were lots of elements within the collection, phrases which touch my heart dearly.

Family to me is a very important aspect of my life. I have a large extended family - my paternal Grandparents had 7 children! I am lucky to be showered with love by all of my Uncles and Aunts. When my Grandparents were around, they also doted on me loads. I always felt that I was the luckiest one with my family around. They are always dependable and taught me many things in life. My Grandmother used to dig out old photos taken in the past, and passed them to me since I always liked to keep all these old memories. A lot of them had turned yellow or discolored over time, but I managed to salvage some and these photos are my treasures!

While most of us document the more recent photos, I sometimes also take out the old photos and document my reflections as well. Some photos just deserved to be documented over and over again!

For the first layout, I used a photo when I was probably 3 years old. It was a huge family joke about this photo, since I was holding hands with my cousin who was 2 months older. I spent some parts of my childhood with him and this was one of those cute photos which I hold dearly to my heart! I title this layout "Childhood".

More details on how I got inspired to do this layout are on Simple Stories blog. Here're some details of this layout.

The next layout, “Love” is a very special layout for me. These photos were taken during an outing to the Botanical garden with my grandparents. My aunt and Grandmother used to tell me how much my grandfather doted on me, and always carrying me around all the time. How treasured are these photos of my grandparents’ love for us? I was too young to remember all the details, but surely these photos hold a wonderful memory for me.

Creating these layouts have taken me on a memory recap and I loved all the emotions accompanying these layouts. Stop today for a while and reminisce on the old times! These can really bring back a big smile to your face!

Don't forget to check out the Simple Stories blog for more details on how I created these layouts!

SS: LO - My Love For You

Hi crafty friends! I'm on Simple Stories Blog with 2 layouts inspired by the theme of love - the love for the other half.

I had some old photo shoot pictures and it was coordinating very nicely with the Simple Stories Carpe Diem Collection! It is one of my favorite collections so far because of its vibrant and beautiful embellishments!

The first layout is titled "Love without Words". Sometimes, all it takes is a smile or a hug, and you will just know what the other half is thinking!

I first did some diamond stitching on the background of the layout, and started layering random size pattern paper from the Carpe Diem Collection. The vibrant colors help to bring out the photo and create a good focus. Next I layered with fussy cuttings of the flowers, and topped it up with other embellishments. I personally loved the clip! In addition, I could not help it but also added the candy machine. It is a symbolic figure of the epic sweet smiles on our faces.

The title portion was the area of most fun! Try adding washi strips behind the journaling or stickers, it helps create a subtle attention to the words! The clear heart sticker is also a useful tool to fill up the empty spaces and give a good flow to the entire look of the layout.

On the other end, i used the cloud cut-out as a background on top of the stitching. Adding layers is easy with the sticker and chipboard sheets!

For the other layout, I used one of my favourite photos - us with the colorful umbrella! I titled this layout "Rain or Shine". Using the alphabets from the sticker sheet, i stuck them to a translucent paper before adhering to the layout. Not only does it create focus, it also allows me to give it a lift with the 3d foam dots. See where the enamel dots are? I hid the 3d foam dots just below them!

The umbrella on the chipboard sheet is a must for this layout! How can i forget the fun we had with the umbrella? I remembered that it was a hot shiny day and we were sweating a lot from the humid heat. The umbrella was not only a beautiful prop but also helped us shade from the strong sunshine!

I could not help it but layered some clouds on the top portion of the layout. It reminds me of the few clouds and the bright blue sky that day. Let your layout embellishments help you document a particular memory of the photo!

Hope you get some inspiration from the layouts!
