MR DT: Cards | Celebrate and Thanks

Hello roadies! I am on the Mayaroad blog today with 2 cards to share. These 2 cards are inspired by this gorgeous Mayaroad die - Geometric Hexagon Die. 2 cards with 1 die - how awesome is this die!

Here is the first of the cards, using the positive die-cut. I cut several pieces of the die-cut with white cardstock and arranged them in a geometric fashion.

Each of these hexagons are actually a layer of 2 pieces of die-cuts to enhance the texture of the background. Since I was going to be using white on white cardstock, I needed the background to have some form of texture.

Then I added the silver foil die-cut on top of the existing white cardstock die-cut. The silver foil star came from the die-cut, I just cut along the edges so the background does not look so plain.

To complete the card, I added some wood shaped star buttons and a sentiment from one of my favorite stamp set, Rose Garden Sentiments using silver ink on black cardstock for contrast. Finally, I added some printed vellum sheet and attached the card front to the base with adhesive foam.

This really excites me, especially when 1 idea leads to another. Before I know it, 2 cards are done with 1 same die.

This card was lovely to make. While making this first card, I found a second idea to use up the negative of the same die. Instead of throwing them to the bin, I decided to work with them, and here is what I achieved.

For this card, I picked up my distress ink and colored the background piece in peacock feathers color. Then I added some temporary adhesive to the postive side of the die-cut, and stuck it on the card base. Then I went ahead and pasted the negative portions with permanent adhesive. Once that was done, I removed the positive piece, arranged it next in place and repeat the same process again.

Here was what it looked like after I was done. Then I went ahead to trim off the sides and matted it with teal cardstock.

I really loved how the shades of teal contrast with the white negative die-cuts.

For the decoration, I added some die-cuts from the floral die set. The florals act as a base for the wood tokens. I matched 2 different wood tokens layered one on top of the other and added some leaves acting as fillers and contrast from the base. The die-cut leaves are from the same floral die set and the stamped leaves are from Rose Garden Sentiments. To complete this card, I added some frosted transparency and banners peeking out from either side of the decoration.

Hope you get inspired with Mayaroad, have a great week ahead!

MR DT: BOOK | Merry

Hello crafty friends! I am on the Maya Road blog sharing a christmas gift - stary stab binding album!

I love giving handmade books for Christmas, and the star stab binding is one of my favorite binding methods!

Star stab binding is a fun and easy way of book binding. Add some fun Maya Road embellishments / diecuts and viola!

Stitching is easy when you have the right thread! I enjoy using Maya Road KO waxed hemp (peony). It allows me to keep an adequate amount of tension on the stitches, and a good thickness so the overall stitching is prominent and sturdy!

For the front cover, I decorated it with some Christmas papers and added MR Wood Holiday Tokens. These tokens goes hand in hand with any projects!

Another embellishment I love to use is the MR pearl flower trim. It fills up empty spaces and is a pretty sight!

Diecuts are super useful as well. Here, I have used the Merry Christmas die and pasted the word merry on a black cardstock. I did a fussy cut around the word so it gives a border to emphasize on the title.

Another trick to highlight the title, add some clusters of MR KO Jute string. It works wonders!

Hope you have enjoyed the walk through today!

MR DT| LO: Collect Moments

Hi Roadies, it is Stacy here on Maya Road with a new layout to share. Working with kraft has always been my favorite. The neutral colors make it easy to work with and it pleases my eye while I am crafting.
Today I am focusing on Kraft and pockets.
LO | Collect Moments
The word "collect" really says it all. In this layout, I have hidden a few photos and journaling which I wanted to collect. Sometimes, I just like to collect some of the memories and relate them on a layout. They can be photos which I have scrapped before, because those are the photos which I remembered at a different point of time. Sometimes, it is fun to document memories at different stages.
Behind the photo, I added the kraft landscape envelope so I can pocket another 2 photos. The photos are added on the shipping tag. Shipping tags are really useful in making layouts. Change the color to match your layout. In this case, I have simply used distress inks to alter it into an older tag look.
Inside the same envelope, I added another smaller envelope. This helps me keep the other tag in place, where I can freely add some hidden journalling. I used my good old typewriter directly on the tag. You could also write or print from the computer.
Loving the frame sayings and the vintage just my type pieces. These are so versatile, I keep adding them to my pages. Another new fun piece that you totally need - the love kraft gift tag. I love the positive and the negative portion. Here I used the positive "Love".
Yes, here comes the negative portion. The scalloped top of the tag is so beautiful, it adds a flair when placed behind embellishments like the kraft picture perfect camera! I also like to add some jute cording, tucked between the papers and embellishments. That really gives a dimension to the layout.
To complete the entire look, a little set of embellishment filling up the top left of my layout. Don't forget the scroll frames - these are perfect for journaling or layering. I used this as the base of my sentiment to help highlight it. With flowers there must be butterflies! I picked a few of my kraft butterflies and added them randomly across the page so it seems like they are fluttering around.
Kraft embellishments are certainly basics for me! I used a bunch of Maya Road kraft products on my layout today and we have a special on the website, 30% off for the month of September using coupon code KRAFTY. If you see something you like, grab it while it's on sale!  You can find all the Kraft products HERE.
Hope you find inspiration in the layout today. Thanks for stopping by the blog and have a great weekend!

MR DT: Mini Album | December Christmas

Hello! This week, our designers on Maya Road blog are pairing with Photoplay to share some inspirations!

I was very excited and inspired when I received the gorgeous Mad 4 Plaid Christmas collection from Photoplay. I knew I had to get ready for the upcoming Christmas (it is just 4 months away!)

Therefore I started with a mini album, which opens up to a Starburst effect. One of my favorite is the homemade holidays stamp set. I used it to emboss some snowflakes onto the pattern paper. Other embellishments include the merry christmas diecutFanciful Wish diecutSilver Snow Crystal Charms and Crystal Circle Buttons.

On the inside of the album, I decorated it with red Rick Rack trims, and Christmas die cuts. Here I used the merry christmas steel die.

The album can be opened up fully displaying a starburst effect. I used the gold bulldog clips to secure the ends. Just to add some flair, I have also added the Vintage Crafting Tassels - Fire Red and snowflake charm, held by the mini safety pins.

But I got carried away and made another 2 more albums! I made these slightly smaller than each other.

Each of these mini albums are binded with coptic stitch using Ken Oliver waxed hemp threads.

The albums fan open to a star shaped manner.

Now with these 3 albums I am ready to build my very own Christmas tree! I intend to place a photo each day as I start the countdown towards Christmas, I think it would be fun!

Hope you are enjoying the inspiration so far.

To celebrate this blog hop, we are excited to be giving away a $20 coupon to the Maya Road online store! One winner for the prizes will be chosen from entries on all of the blog posts here on the Maya Road Blog about the swap. MR DT: Single Coptic Notebook

Hello! It has been a while and I had been busy stitching!

Today, I am on the Maya Road blog sharing a hand stitched notebook today! I will never get tired of stitching notebooks, they are special with different stitching patterns and a useful gift for the recipient!

There are many chipboard albums from the Maya Road collection which I dismantle to make my notebooks. They come with tabs, which makes the notebook very different from what you can get with regular rectangular chipboards. I intend to use this notebook to document my travels, hence the travel token come in handy on the front cover. I like to keep the front cover of the notebook as flat as possible, so as not to hinder when I write.

With the same thought in mind, I hang some charms on the tabs of the front cover with the help of a bulldog clip and a mini safety pin. I like dangling charms - they are always pretty on albums or notebooks! The bulldog clips allow me to hang these beautiful charms and removing it when I need to.

Charms are very useful in every project! They are good as decor, either pasted as an embellishment or hung for decorations. Here, I am using the single coptic stitch for this notebook. The KO Waxed Hemp is perfect for this stitching! It gives me the perfect tension, and a good visual for the coptic loops. The waxed hemp is also strong enough to support the weight of charms dangling from the spine.

Maya Road is also having a promo in July - Charms! Get your supply of charms at 30% off now!
Thanks for joining me through this post and dropping by the blog today~
