MR DT: Wood Pallet | "Love" / Creativation 2017 updates

Hi Roadies! This year marks my first visit to Creativation 2017 and I am very excited to share my Creativation projects this year. Do read till the end! There are some awesome deals happening in Febuary!

Maya Road wood pallets are fun to work with. There are different sizes and shapes available - let the creativity flow! This time, I chose a 8x8 wood pallet to work with.

To coordinate with my wedding dress, I chose red and white as the primary colors.

First, i primed the wood pallet with gesso, then using the Dots ATC diecut as template, i applied textured paste on. These die cuts are so useful in a whole load of ways! Then I painted with hint of browns lightly. I wanted the base to stay natural.

Then i used the Cherry Red twine cording to go around a embroidery hoop. When this is done, I used some jute to sew in the centre so it looks like a dreamcatcher.

When the sewing is all done, I did some diecutting with the rolled flower die. This time, I used felt. It gives a soft look - and I love it! When you are done, just add pearls to the flower centre.

Now it is time to assemble all the other pieces together! Layering all the Maya Road goodies together is always the fun part! Here are the supplies which I have used:

• Shimmering Pointed Petal Flower - Cadmium Red
Felt Blossom - Cloud
• Embossed Metal Leaf Embellishment
Ken Oliver Vintage Compass Charms
Ken Oliver Vintage Mini Keys
• Acrylic Token
Mixed Wood Slices
Stained Wood Star Buttons
Silver Star Pins
Love Kraft Gift Tags
Geometric Diamond Die

Lastly, I decided to add some tassels to complete the project! Here I have used the Fire Red tassels and Milk White tassels.

Hope you get some inspirations from the projects! Now, for the special deal! Don't miss out! It is time to stock up the wood supplies!

SS DT: 12x12 Layouts | Happiness & Joy

I'm on the Simple Stories blog today with 2 layouts.

I have been inspired by stars recently, and I love how brightly they shine up above the skies. There is much hope and joy, so I would like to share that today.

In my first layout, i titled it Shine Like a Star, using Sunshine and Happiness collection. On the backdrop, i did some stitching of the Star of David and had them spread out randomly. Add some enamel dots at the corners of the stars, it helps to highlight the shape of the star!

Here is a closer look on the title. I like to stitch through my title and give it emphasis. Here you can also see how I varied the size enamel dots on the edge of the sewn stars.

Layering embellishments is always easier with Simple Stories. The collections can also be mixed to achieve what you desire. Here I used the chipboard frames, floral and memory stamp embellishments (bits and pieces) from Life in Color collection, wood veneers from You Are Here Collection and decorative Clips from Carpe Diem Collection. I think it is cool to mix and match the pieces required to complete the layout, and having significant embellishments to tell your story.

The other part of cluster which I adore! Here you can see the remains of the chipboard frame. I cut them up using a strong pair of scissors and layered it here.

For the second layout, my influence came from some circular structures I have seen around the buildings recently. I tend to draft and doodle ideas on the go in my notebook and sometimes using them in the layouts I create. In between creating this layout, I decided to go ahead and add some string art! This was fun!

To create a subtle focus to the circular elements, i added some arrows on the sides and machine stitched them. I chose a plain white cardstock so it does not overwhelm the entire layout and blend with the backdrop. Here I also added some embellishments to cover the area. Love this bird! Around the photo, you can see a scallop border and some string art added as a matting for the photo.

More string art here to the main cluster of embellishments.

Let's take a closer look at the circular elements in this layout. I like how simple it is to embellish using the pattern papers in the Sunshine and Happiness collection!

There has not been much sunshine in my area recently, most days are covered with clouds and the day seems less bright. Using this collection in the layouts have given me much shine and happiness, and I hope they brighten your days too!

SS DT: 12x12 Layouts | Wedding Thoughts

Hello crafters!

I am back on Simple Stories blog to share some layouts inspired by my wedding recently! This time, I am inspired by the wedding photo shoot taken recently for my traditional wedding. I thought I would like to document some thoughts that went in my mind during the photo shoot and it would be a good memento when hubs and I grow old! This time round, I made use of 2 Simple Stories collection which matches both of the photos I intended to craft on.

The first layout is titled "My Heart is Yours" and I made use of the Heart collection. This collection houses my favorite colors and I absolutely adore the paper elements in the pack! I had made 2 layouts previously using this collection, now another, and I still have enough for another layout!

To highlight the paper elements which I would like to showcase, I first cut them in squares of 2 sizes. Then I started planning where they would go, before finally stitching the edges of all the squares. Then I picked out the elements which I would like to use in order to highlight my photo.

Here, I have used a heart sticker and popped it over a pattern paper. This helps to highlight the embellishments pretty much!

Adding wooden embellishments from “Life in Color” collection here! I love to add wooden embellishments to showcase my subtitles. Easy way to create layering for my layouts! I also did fussy cutting of the heart shape there, it was originally meant for my journaling but I changed my mind afterwards! It is okay to make changes along the way, most importantly, go with the flow of creating and have fun!

Then, I used the more stickers to help with my title. Matting the little alpha stickers help to enhance the title. I did some fussy cutting of the rosette in order to place it below the title to help encase it.

My next layout features another wedding gown and I thought it would look best with the “Bloom & Grow” collection. I titled it “Happy Moments” and it came from the sticker sheet as well as the bits and pieces pack. How apt! I love it totally when pieces like that come to place easily!

More stitching here! I added some simple tacketing to the background in order to break the vertical flow of the layout. Simple stitch but I love that it creates sort of a fence which highlights the entire theme well! To add on to the garden feel, I also added some die-cut floral pieces, highlighted by the bradz and embellished with the bits and pieces pack! Not forgetting some sentiments along the way!

Another use of the sticker pack here. I layered then randomly then stitched up the entire row. Simple and effective!

MR DT: Canvas - We

Hi crafty friends! It's my turn on the Maya Road blog today! This time I am back with a canvas! I wanted to create something to document my upcoming wedding and I am excited to put this together!

I do love hexagons. This is one shape that is special yet not over cluttering when placed on layouts. You can do the same layout with other shapes as well. I first treated the canvas with Gesso, and then painted with colors of my choice - pink and a hint of green. I opted for the more dreamy colors in this layout. Then I added the hexagon chipboard and roses vintage lace trim - cloud directly onto the background. I painted these to match the background color so they do not look overwhelming.

Then, I misted the chipboard swirls in silver to match the overall color tone. I added this to 3 parts of the layout in order to achieve a visual triangle to balance things out.

After the background elements were done, I added the hexagon box to the canvas. Decorating this was easy. First, I added jute & twine cording to the wood spools. Next was the painting portion. I painted the royal key charms with gesso, so they do not look overwhelming against the entire layout. I took the heart element from the Chipboard Say What Speech Bubbles and also painted it red. Flowers are my best friends in crafting! Here I used 2 of my favorite Mayaroad flowers - Felt Roses & Tu-Tu Tulle Flowers - for layering. Last but not least, this dreamy birdie here took my breathe away! They are such a pretty sight, I could not resist but to add them to the layout as well!

After the main frame was done, I moved on to decorate the other parts of the canvas layout. I selected some chipboards with love phrases from my Maya Road stash and painted them. You can choose to add glitter to the words in order to create attention.

Here comes my favorite part of the entire canvas! Here, I used the pretty resin bows and acrylic tokens for layering. The resin bow was painted to match the colors of the entire layout. I really love how subtle yet pretty the acrylic tokens are! For sure it will be appearing again for my projects!
Next, I added some more Tu-Tu Tulle flowersfelt rosesdaisy clip, pearl flowers and tassel for layering. The tassels are super yummy! I love to use them on my projects! Love how it comes in many different colors!

Hope you like what I shared with you today!

SS: LO - Hello Life & Life Happiness

Yohoo! It is such a thrill joining this team of talented ladies and working with my favourite brand of papers! Most who know me will know that I have been a SS fan ever since the very first collection, so being on this team is a big hooray for me! Today, I am excited to share my first project as a Simple Stories Creative Team Member today!

This same year also marks another milestone for me. I recently got engaged with my boyfriend of 9 years and now embarking on a journey as husband and wife. With the traditional wedding coming up in another 4 months’ time, I am kept super busy with the preparations and decorations! We registered our marriage earlier in May 2015. I wanted to document down this set of memories, and in the following layouts, you will be seeing some of the photos taken during the ROM.

Life in 2015/2016 is showing me lots of new challenges and milestones completed. “Life in Color” collection from Simple Stories must really be the answer to my layouts’ needs! I love the vivid colors of the collection very much!

This is my first layout which I have concentrated on circular elements as the main shape of focus here.

Started working on the negative space behind the light blue pattern paper, and then decided that I wanted to work with the positive side as well. This page comes up a little more bulky than usual because of all the 3D formations, but it works for me fine.

On the positive spaces, I layered the elements with different depths to create more visual effects. After cutting the circular shape for the pattern paper, I also added sewing details to enhance the shape. Since this ROM took place in May, I added in the circular month as part of the embellishment detail. I love the “Bits and Pieces” pack in this collection. Simple Stories has filled it with so many choices and I am spoiled!

See what I meant about the bits and pieces pack? Add the little piece “Today” with the memories tag in the “6x12 Chipboard pieces” and the embellishments start to hook up in amazing coordination!

Finally, because the pattern papers are so attractive, I decided to make a little banner strip right at the top corner of the layout, to showcase the vivid colors and complement the rest of the elements.

On the second layout, I decided on a cleaner grid page. After printing out all the photos, I noticed that these 2 photos had a significant complement to each other. It seems like my husband and I were looking at each other when the photos were placed side by side to each other. Hence, I decided to use a more grid form to this layout.

In addition, I was inspired by “Life in Color – Happy Little Moments” pattern paper. The triangular concept of the paper appealed to me and I started the arrangement of embellishments with the triangular cut in mind.

I wanted to create some white space around the photo. Hence, to make it more prominent, I used a black marker pen to doodle some dotted lines to create emphasis on the main layout elements.

To top things up, I added some enamel dots scattered all around the layout. It helps to fill up the empty spaces yet not cluttering. I love the multiple colors and sizes of enamel dots in the series. Play along with different colors and sizes to create more (yet simple) attraction to your layout!

Hope you liked these layouts that I have shared with you today! For those residing in Singapore, Simple Stories is available at Made With Love! :)
